Exercise Following Directions Game

The following lesson is from my book, The Pringle Plan for Following Directions.


EXERCISE

  •     All actions are done while standing in place.
  •     Students repeat word, then follow direction.
  •   Demonstrate while instructing, until students   can follow with just the verbal instruction.


Say hand. Now stand. (feet together, hands at sides) 
Say dawdy. Now exercise your body. (jumping jacks)
Say yetch. Now stretch. (say, “upper body first,” while reaching high; say, “lower body next,” while doing a lunge)
Say boulders. Roll your shoulders.
Say palance. Now balance. (stand on one foot, lift other leg forward, arms out to sides)
Say fates. Now lift some weights. (pretend to hold weights, and bend elbows toward you)
Say more. Now flex your core. (pretend to do sit ups while standing in place)
Say lingers. Now exercise your fingers. (wiggle and separate fingers)
Say farms. Now exercise your arms. (large and small circles, forward and back)
Say wills. Let’s practice some gross motor skills. (pretend to throw and kick)
Say sobics. Now do some aerobics. (run in place, then check pulse)
Say tip. Now skip.
Say starch. Now march.
Say kog. Now jog.
Say galk. Now walk.
Say wizical. Now do something physical. (pretend to lift something heavy)
Say Russel. Now show some muscle. (flex arms)
Say gong. I feel strong. (nod head yes, and flex arm muscles)
Say wealthy. Exercise keeps you healthy. (clap and yell, “Yeah!”)
Say whale. Now sit on your tail. (in chair, on floor, or in next activity area, depending on the daily routine you want to teach)
